Established with Le172,000,000 (about US $40,000) on 1st January 2012 with family resources, the Sankoh Foundation aims to raise funds to support its mission stated below.
Our mission is to make grants to support and strengthen research for health and development in Sierra Leone.
Our efforts are geared towards the improvement of health and contribute to socioeconomic development in Sierra Leone.
Our focus on Sierra Leone is obvious: Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world where very little research for health is currently taking place. As a result credible data are not always available to guide policy and planning.
We believe that research is crucial for meeting health needs and improving health outcomes.
Research is an investment for a better and healthier future. Its results help in diagnosing health problems and in deciding on interventions that are appropriate and feasible.
Our grantees are therefore working to ensuring that a research culture becomes an integral part of Sierra Leone’s way of life starting from primary schools to tertiary institutions and ministries, and that the sound evidence provided by research is used to guide various national policies.
Our funders help the Foundation to effectively pursue our mission.
